Overtime and withholding
Overtime compensation is generally subject to federal withholding, Social Security and Medicare. Florida does not add individual state income tax.
The federal income-tax deduction for qualifying overtime enacted for 2025–2028 concerns income-tax returns and updated W-4 elections. This tool does not silently subtract it from paycheck wages.
Know the limitation
This calculator estimates pay; it does not decide whether a worker is legally entitled to overtime under federal or state labor law.
Overtime paycheck example
At $20 per hour, five overtime hours at 1.5× produce $150 of overtime gross pay for the week. The calculator combines regular and overtime wages before estimating withholding.
Frequently asked questions
What is time-and-a-half at my hourly rate?
Multiply the regular hourly rate by 1.5. For example, time-and-a-half on $20 per hour is $30 per overtime hour.
Does overtime have a separate tax rate?
Overtime is taxable wage income. Withholding may increase because gross wages increased, but there is no special Florida overtime tax.
Does this determine whether I qualify for overtime?
No. Classification, duties and employment-law facts determine eligibility. This tool calculates the pay scenario entered.
